ByteDance's Doubao Mobile Assistant Earns Highest L5 Security Rating from CAICT
ByteDance's Doubao Mobile Assistant achieved the highest L5 security rating in China's first device-cloud collaborative confidential computing evaluation, conducted by Telecommunication Technology Labs (CAICT). The assessment verified 15 technical sub-items across key dimensions such as Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs), remote attestation, transparent audit logging, and key management. As mobile AI assistants handle increasingly sensitive personal context, ensuring user data privacy during cloud processing is critical. Achieving an L5 rating demonstrates a commercial deployment of hardware-backed confidential computing in mobile AI, setting a security benchmark for the smartphone AI ecosystem. Doubao protects user privacy by keeping data encrypted in transit and decrypting it exclusively within attestation-verified cloud TEEs. The consumer version debuts on the Nubia NaviX Ultra, featuring hardware integrations like a physical AI button with embedded fingerprint authentication to streamline secure access.
## BACKGROUND
Confidential computing is a security technology that protects data in use by isolating memory within hardware-based Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs). Remote attestation allows a client device to cryptographically verify that the remote cloud environment processing its data is secure and authentic before sending sensitive information.
