ByteDance Launches Doubao Mobile Assistant Consumer Edition with App GUI Automation Controls
ByteDance has officially released the consumer edition of Doubao Mobile Assistant, launching its phone automation feature in Beta alongside the Screen Automation Execution Protocol (SAEP). This protocol enables third-party app developers to explicitly permit or deny automated AI screen operations within their apps. As mobile AI agents shift from passive text interfaces to active GUI interaction, balancing automation with app security and privacy is critical. Establishing an explicit permission framework addresses developer concerns while paving the way for safer ecosystem-wide mobile AI automation. The assistant features a dedicated AI button with fingerprint authentication, real-time screen content Q&A, local data search across photos and messages, and integration with Feishu Minutes. The consumer edition will officially premiere on the Nubia NaviX Ultra smartphone launching on September 16.
## BACKGROUND
GUI (Graphical User Interface) agents are AI systems capable of visually reading screens and interacting with apps by simulating user clicks, swipes, and text entries. Feishu Minutes (飞书妙记) is ByteDance's AI meeting tool that automatically transcribes voice recordings and generates structured summaries and action items.
