Bolt Graphics Completes Zeus GPU Test Chip Debugging
GPU startup Bolt Graphics announced that it has successfully debugged its Zeus architecture test chip, featuring dedicated electromagnetic simulation hardware, with commercial products expected by 2028. This milestone marks a step forward for specialized hardware architectures targeting complex computational scenarios like physical AI and ray tracing, though commercial release is still years away. The 6mm² test chip was fabricated on TSMC's 12nm process, achieving an A0 stepping return with zero functional issues and a 1.4W power consumption. The commercial GPU will utilize TSMC's N5P process, targeting full market availability in 2028.
## BACKGROUND
An A0 stepping represents the very first initial silicon tape-out version of a semiconductor chip, which is primarily used for preliminary testing and debugging. TSMC's N5P is an enhanced version of their 5nm fabrication process, offering improved performance and lower power consumption compared to the baseline N5 node.
