BIOSTAR Introduces Fanless EdgeComp MS-U320 Edge AI System
BIOSTAR has launched the EdgeComp MS-U320, a fanless edge AI system powered by an Intel Core 5 processor that delivers up to 40 TOPS of local AI performance. The compact unit features robust I/O capabilities and is designed to operate in harsh industrial environments. This release expands the availability of hardware optimized for local AI inferencing, which is crucial for real-time data processing without cloud dependency in industrial automation. It provides embedded systems engineers with a durable, fanless option capable of running modern workloads on Ubuntu and Windows. The system measures 310×202×72 mm, weighs 1.2kg, and operates reliably in temperatures ranging from -20°C to +50°C. It includes one DDR5 SO-DIMM slot, three M.2 slots for storage and wireless expansion, and four COM ports supporting RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485 protocols.
## BACKGROUND
Edge AI refers to deploying artificial intelligence models directly on local hardware devices rather than remote cloud servers, enabling real-time processing and lower latency. Fanless industrial systems utilize passive cooling to prevent dust and debris buildup, making them ideal for rugged manufacturing and edge computing deployments.
