AWS and Yao Foundation Partner to Train AI and Sports Talent in China

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has partnered with the Yao Foundation to launch the "Cloud Canvas" initiative, donating $1 million in cash along with cloud and AI resources. The program marks the first time AWS has brought its global "Breaking Barriers" initiative to China to cultivate talent possessing both AI literacy and sports education expertise. This initiative demonstrates how major cloud providers are extending generative AI education into specialized domains like sports science and physical education. It highlights how corporate social responsibility programs can bridge technical training with grassroots social impact by deploying AI tools directly to underserved rural schools. The initiative is structured into three phases: specialized technical training for students at 10 universities, a hackathon to build practical AI teaching assistants for physical education, and pilot deployment of winning tools across 100 rural schools. Senior AWS solution architects will provide direct mentorship, hands-on workshops, and support for technical certifications.

## BACKGROUND

The Yao Foundation, established in 2008 by former NBA player Yao Ming, promotes youth development and physical education in underserved regions of China.
