Arm Unveils CSS for Mobile 2 to Power Agentic AI and AI-Native Graphics

Arm announced its second-generation Compute Subsystem for Mobile (CSS for Mobile 2) at the Arm Everywhere China event in Shanghai. The platform features the C2 CPU cluster with dual SME2 engines, the Mali G2-Ultra NX GPU with integrated neural accelerators inside shader cores, and system-level optimizations designed for agentic AI and AI-native mobile graphics. As mobile AI evolves from simple question-answering assistants to autonomous agents executing multi-step workflows, mobile chipsets require hardware optimized for workflow orchestration and context retention within strict thermal limits. By offering pre-integrated and pre-validated subsystems, Arm enables silicon partners to reduce engineering complexity and accelerate the deployment of custom AI-capable SoCs. The C2 CPU cluster delivers up to a 1.7x performance boost on targeted AI models, a 15% increase in single-threaded performance, and up to 38% energy savings at equivalent performance, while supporting up to 14 cores and process nodes down to 2nm. Additionally, the Mali G2-Ultra NX GPU incorporates dedicated convolutional neural network (CNN) engines directly into shader cores to perform super-resolution and detail enhancement alongside graphics rendering without data transfer overhead.

Arm Compute Subsystems (CSS) provide pre-integrated hardware configurations that combine optimized CPUs, GPUs, interconnects, and software toolkits to streamline chip manufacturing. Agentic AI refers to artificial intelligence systems capable of understanding intent, autonomous planning, context retention, and multi-step task execution, shifting the role of the mobile CPU toward active workflow management.
