Apple Reportedly Preparing Smart Home Hub Display alongside Updated HomePod mini and Apple TV
According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple plans to launch a 6-inch smart home control hub (codenamed J490/J491) featuring voice and facial recognition to personalize user profiles. Apple also plans to release refreshed versions of the HomePod mini and Apple TV designed to support next-generation Siri AI capabilities. This signals Apple's major push into the smart display market to directly challenge Amazon Echo Show and Google Nest Hub. It tightly integrates hardware with Apple's upgraded Siri AI to establish a central command post for the broader Apple ecosystem. The device features a 6-inch square display in tabletop (J490, inspired by iMac G4) and wall-mounted (J491) form factors, operating without internal batteries. It uses a front-facing camera with a screen light ring for facial recognition to switch user profiles automatically, relying on an iPhone as a secondary fallback when recognition is uncertain.
