Apple Reportedly Planning Privacy-Focused AI Home Security Service and Hardware

According to reports by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is planning to launch a privacy-focused home security monitoring service alongside its own AI-powered security cameras around 2026 or 2027. The hardware is expected to leverage AI analysis, facial recognition, and infrared sensors to monitor home environments and trigger automations without requiring continuous raw video recording. This initiative signals Apple's intention to deepen its presence in the smart home market while expanding its recurring subscription revenue. By prioritizing privacy-first AI video analysis, Apple aims to differentiate itself from traditional home security providers that rely heavily on continuous cloud video storage. The service could integrate tightly with Apple's existing and upcoming devices, such as a dedicated smart home hub and HomePod products, and may eventually be bundled into Apple One subscriptions. Future updates to HomeKit Secure Video are also rumored to include 4K resolution support, AI-generated video summaries, smart event detection, and natural language video searching.
