Apodex Releases Apodex 1.1 Model Family, FrontierAgent Harness, and FrontierChallenge Benchmark

The Apodex team has released the Apodex 1.1 model family, which includes the Apodex-1.1-mini model in various quantized formats such as NVFP4, GPTQ-Int4, and FP8. Alongside the models, they open-sourced the FrontierAgent research workbench and introduced the FrontierChallenge benchmark for evaluating scientific workflows. This release advances the development of local AI agents capable of executing complex, long-horizon tasks like code execution, file management, and multi-agent coordination. By open-sourcing both the agent harness and a rigorous scientific benchmark, Apodex provides the community with practical tools to build and verify agentic workflows. The Apodex-1.1-mini-NVFP4 model utilizes NVIDIA's new 4-bit floating-point format designed for Blackwell GPUs to optimize memory usage and inference speed. Additionally, the FrontierChallenge benchmark comprises 300 cross-domain scientific workflows to test whether AI agents can deliver complete, verifiable results.

## BACKGROUND

AI agents are systems designed to autonomously perform multi-step tasks, use external tools, and recover from errors to achieve specific goals. NVFP4 is a low-precision quantization format introduced with the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture that helps run large models efficiently with minimal accuracy loss. Benchmarks like FrontierChallenge are essential for measuring how well these autonomous systems perform on complex, real-world scientific problems.
