Apacer Warns of DRAM and Enterprise SSD Shortages Persisting Until 2027
Apacer CEO Chang Chia-kun warned that the supply shortage and rising prices of DRAM and enterprise SSDs, driven by surging AI demand, will persist until at least the first half of 2027. Major memory manufacturers are shifting their production capacity toward high-margin AI components like HBM, server DDR5, and LPDDR5X. This supply shift is driving up costs for consumer electronics like PCs and smartphones, forcing manufacturers to scale back purchases. However, niche markets like industrial computing and edge AI are less affected as they can more easily pass these higher costs onto customers. The global "big three" DRAM makers—Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron—are prioritizing high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and enterprise SSDs to support large language models (LLMs) and AI inference. Consequently, the supply of standard DDR4, DDR5, and industrial-grade memory chips will continue to shrink.
