Anthropic Signs $35 Billion Cloud Compute Deal with Lambda

Anthropic has signed a $35 billion cloud computing agreement with Nvidia-backed cloud provider Lambda to secure AI compute capacity. Under the deal, Lambda will operate inside a Texas data center developed by Hut 8 and leased by Nvidia, deploying Nvidia GPUs to provide computing services to Anthropic. This multi-billion-dollar deal highlights the extreme demand for AI compute infrastructure and the unconventional subleasing models emerging among tech leaders. It underscores Nvidia's growing role not just as a chipmaker, but as an infrastructure anchor securing data center capacity for its cloud partners and AI clients. The facility is located in Nueces County, Texas, on a 700-megawatt campus that Hut 8 leased to Nvidia under a 15-year master lease. Anthropic has aggressively pursued compute access, recently securing a separate $45 billion deal with Nscale and building Google TPU-based data centers with Hut 8 that are backed by Google financial guarantees.

## BACKGROUND

Specialized GPU cloud providers, often called 'neoclouds' (such as Lambda and Nscale), offer high-performance compute infrastructure tailored specifically for training and hosting large AI models. As building mega data centers requires immense upfront capital, AI companies, chip manufacturers, and data center developers are collaborating through complex leasing, revenue-sharing, and financial guarantee arrangements.
