Anthropic Relaxes Game Development Restrictions in Claude Code

Anthropic updated Claude Code to version 2.1.317, relaxing restrictions on game development so users can reference existing games for inspiration without facing automatic rejections. This policy adjustment addresses developer frustrations caused by overly strict safety prompts, striking a better balance between preventing intellectual property theft and allowing legitimate creative inspiration. While users can now mention existing games to describe mechanics for original titles, Claude Code will still refuse requests that explicitly demand a direct clone of an existing game.

## BACKGROUND

Claude Code is an AI-assisted terminal coding agent developed by Anthropic. Previously, strict system prompts were added to prevent users from cloning existing games, which inadvertently blocked developers who simply wanted to use established games as design references.
