Anthropic, Macquarie, and GIC Launch Theseus Infrastructure for AI Data Centers
Anthropic has partnered with Macquarie Asset Management and Singapore's sovereign wealth fund GIC to launch Theseus Infrastructure, a joint venture dedicated to developing and operating AI data centers. The platform will build facilities tailored specifically to Anthropic's computing needs, with Anthropic serving as the anchor tenant. This partnership highlights the massive capital and physical infrastructure requirements needed to support frontier AI models, shifting the focus from just leasing chips to developing physical real estate. It secures Anthropic's long-term access to dedicated AI compute power amid growing global infrastructure constraints. Theseus Infrastructure will initially focus on the United States market, with Macquarie and GIC providing the majority of the equity funding. Notably, Anthropic has agreed to cover any increases in consumer electricity prices that may arise from these data center projects.
## BACKGROUND
Training and running advanced AI models requires massive GPU clusters that consume vast amounts of electricity and generate intense heat, making traditional data centers inadequate. As a result, AI companies are increasingly partnering with infrastructure asset managers and sovereign wealth funds to secure dedicated, high-density power and cooling facilities.
