Anthropic Launches Claude Code, an Official Agentic CLI Coding Tool
Anthropic's official repository anthropics/claude-code is trending on GitHub after gaining over 2,700 stars in a single week. Claude Code is a terminal-based agentic AI tool designed to assist developers with coding, debugging, and project management directly from the command line. This release marks Anthropic's direct expansion into agentic developer tooling that operates directly within local development environments. By enabling natural language control over file editing, command execution, and Git management, it significantly accelerates routine software engineering tasks. Built primarily with TypeScript, Claude Code embeds directly into the user's terminal to analyze whole-codebase context, run commands, and automate routine workflow actions. It can also manage complex Git workflows and explain complex codebases on demand using natural language interactions.
## BACKGROUND
