Ant Group Open-Sources Ming-3.0 Speech Model Series

Ant Group has open-sourced the Ming-3.0 speech model series, consisting of five models under the MIT license across text-to-speech, audio understanding, and speech recognition. The release includes models like Ming-3.0-tts-0.5B, Ming-3.0-audio-flash, and Ming-3.0-asr-tiny, which are available on Hugging Face and ModelScope. This release provides developers and researchers with practical, high-performance open-source tools for audio processing, significantly advancing the accessibility of sophisticated speech AI capabilities. By offering fine-grained control such as director-mode TTS and direct long-audio understanding, it enables richer voice-enabled applications across various industries. The Ming-3.0-tts series features voice design via text or reference audio alongside a 'director mode' for controlling emotion and rhythm, while the audio-flash model handles complex long-audio tasks natively without intermediate transcripts. Additionally, the asr-tiny model integrates large language model context to improve accuracy across Mandarin, English, dialects, and hot-words.

## BACKGROUND

Text-to-speech (TTS) and automatic speech recognition (ASR) are foundational technologies in conversational AI that convert text into spoken audio and vice versa. Open-source models in this domain allow developers to deploy and customize voice agents locally or via APIs without being locked into proprietary vendor ecosystems.
