AMD Unveils High-Performance Threadripper Halo Station AI Workstation

AMD announced the Threadripper Halo Station at IFA 2026, an ultra-high-end liquid-cooled AI workstation powered by a 96-core Zen 5 Threadripper PRO 9995WX processor. The workstation comes equipped with dual AMD Instinct MI350P accelerators delivering up to 288GB of combined HBM3E memory. This workstation bridges the gap between desktop systems and enterprise data centers by delivering massive memory bandwidth and compute performance locally. It allows researchers and developers to run and fine-tune massive open-weights AI models without depending on cloud hardware. The workstation pairs 2TB of 8-channel DDR5 system memory with dual CDNA 4-based Instinct MI350P GPUs, each providing up to 4,614 TFLOPS of FP4 performance and 4 TB/s memory bandwidth. The architecture supports expanding to four accelerators for a total of 576GB of HBM3E memory.

## BACKGROUND

AMD's Instinct series uses the compute-centric CDNA microarchitecture, which is optimized specifically for data centers and AI workloads rather than traditional graphics rendering. High Bandwidth Memory (HBM3E) offers extremely high transfer speeds necessary to keep GPUs fed with data during complex computational tasks. Additionally, low-precision numeric formats like FP4 significantly accelerate inference speeds and reduce memory footprint while preserving task accuracy.
