AMD Samples Versal AI Core XQRVC1902 Adaptive SoC for Space Missions

AMD has begun delivering early samples of its space-grade Versal AI Core XQRVC1902 adaptive SoC to aerospace customers. The chip is engineered to support high-reliability space missions requiring an operational lifespan of up to 15 years. Bringing advanced AI processing and adaptive compute directly into orbit enables satellites to analyze heavy data payloads onboard rather than beaming raw data back to Earth. This product strengthens AMD's position in space-grade microelectronics by serving long-duration military and commercial satellite projects. The SoC features an AMD-developed space-grade lidless packaging that combines enhanced organic substrate materials with space-grade capacitors to reduce mechanical and thermal stress in orbit. AMD is actively testing the processor against MIL-PRF-38535 Class Y, the highest military quality and reliability certification standard for space-bound microelectronics.

## BACKGROUND

Adaptive System-on-Chips (SoCs) integrate programmable logic with scalar processing engines to dynamically reconfigure hardware for different computing workloads. Microelectronics deployed in outer space face extreme radiation and thermal fluctuations, requiring rigorous packaging designs and standards like MIL-PRF-38535 Class Y to prevent device failure over multi-year operations.
