AMD Drivers Add ROCm 10.1 Support for RDNA 3 and RDNA 4 GPUs

AMD has released an update for its Software: Adrenalin Edition driver targeting RDNA 3 and RDNA 4 GPUs, adding official support for ROCm 10.1. The driver update contains no gaming optimizations and focuses entirely on enabling AMD's open compute stack for consumer graphics cards. This release expands AMD's ROCm ecosystem to broader consumer hardware, allowing AI and machine learning developers to run accelerated workloads on Radeon GPUs. Bringing WSL2 support into technical preview also makes it significantly easier for Windows users to run Linux-native AI tools and frameworks. ROCm 10.1 introduces improved data movement efficiency, LLVM 24 support, updated AI and math libraries, GPU virtualization expansions, and hipThreads concurrency tools. Supported hardware includes Radeon RX 9000 series, RX 7900 / 7800 / 7700 / 7600 series, and Radeon AI PRO R9700 GPUs.

## BACKGROUND

ROCm (Radeon Open Compute) is AMD's open-source GPU computing platform, offering compilers, runtimes, and libraries for AI and high-performance computing (HPC). Historically focused on enterprise Instinct accelerators, AMD has been progressively expanding support to consumer Radeon GPUs to compete with NVIDIA's CUDA platform.
