AMD Announces $1 Billion Investment and Expanded AI Infrastructure Partnership with Meta
AMD has announced a $1 billion equity investment in Meta alongside an expanded strategic partnership to supply EPYC processors, Instinct GPUs, and ROCm software for gigawatt-scale AI infrastructure. Additionally, AMD's Helios rack-scale system has already been installed and tested at Meta data centers. This collaboration cements AMD as a critical hardware and software supplier for hyperscale AI builders, directly competing with NVIDIA to power Meta's next-generation frontier AI models and personal superintelligence services. It demonstrates the growing industry shift toward multi-vendor, massive-scale AI infrastructure deployment. The partnership spans multiple product generations, including current EPYC deployments, upcoming processors codenamed 'Verano', early architecture definition for the Instinct MI450, and future Instinct MI500 series GPUs. Furthermore, AMD provides Day-0 software support for Meta's Muse Spark Open and Muse Glimmer models using ROCm and Ryzen AI.
## BACKGROUND
AMD EPYC processors are enterprise-grade x86 server CPUs known for high core counts and multi-chip module designs. AMD Instinct GPUs are specialized accelerators built for high-performance computing and heavy AI workloads, while ROCm is AMD's open-source software stack tailored for GPU programming and AI framework optimization.
