AMD and Anthropic Partner to Deploy GPUs and Use Claude for ROCm Development
AMD and Anthropic have announced a multi-layered strategic partnership that includes a $5 billion equity investment commitment and the deployment of 2GW of AMD Instinct MI450 series GPUs. Additionally, the two companies will launch a multi-year engineering collaboration to use Anthropic's Claude AI to accelerate AMD's ROCm software development and optimize GPU workloads. This partnership helps Anthropic secure the massive computing power needed to train and run its Claude models, while AMD gains a powerful AI partner to improve its ROCm software ecosystem, which is crucial for challenging Nvidia's dominance in the AI chip market. AMD will widely adopt Claude across its internal engineering and product development teams to optimize workloads on its Instinct GPUs. The deployment will also leverage AMD's Helios AI platform, a rack-scale system designed for large-scale AI inferencing and training.
## BACKGROUND
ROCm is AMD's open-source software stack for GPU programming, serving as their primary competitor to Nvidia's proprietary CUDA platform. AMD Helios is a rack-scale AI system integrating Instinct GPUs, EPYC processors, and Pensando networking to power next-generation AI workloads.
