Amazon Prime Video Launches AI-Powered Visual Lip-Sync Feature for Dubbed Shows
Amazon Prime Video announced an AI-powered lip-sync feature that visually modifies actors' mouth movements to align with dubbed audio tracks in different languages. The capability is initially available for the English-dubbed version of the German original series Maxton Hall — The World Between Us, with plans to expand to more titles. Traditional foreign language dubbing often breaks viewer immersion due to the visual mismatch between spoken audio and actor lip movements. By introducing generative visual dubbing to mainstream streaming, Amazon aims to make cross-language content feel as natural and immersive as native productions. The feature combines AI models with visual effects (VFX) technology to adjust actors' facial performances without synthesizing or altering the dubbed human voice actor tracks. It builds on earlier trials across 12 titles and is currently enabled for Seasons 1 and 2 of Maxton Hall, with Season 3 support planned for December.

Traditional dubbing replaces an original performance's audio with local voice actors, but the visual discord between different spoken phonemes and lip movements can distract viewers. Visual dubbing technologies use generative AI to analyze translated audio waveforms and synthesize matching frame-by-frame mouth shapes on the original footage. Streaming platforms and tech companies are increasingly adopting these tools to make localized international content more accessible to global audiences.
