Alphabet Launches Second Euro Bond Issuance of the Year to Fund AI Investments

Alphabet has launched its second euro-denominated bond issuance of the year, spanning seven tranches with maturities ranging from 2 to 19 years. This move comes shortly after an earnings report that missed expectations and raised market skepticism regarding heavy artificial intelligence expenditures. This bond issuance tests investor appetite and confidence in Big Tech's massive, ongoing capital expenditures for artificial intelligence infrastructure. It highlights the financial pressure major tech companies face as they commit trillions to AI development despite rising borrowing costs and market volatility. The seven-tranche bond offering features a 2-year fixed-rate tranche priced around 60 basis points over mid-swaps and a 19-year tranche priced 205 to 210 basis points over mid-swaps. The issuance is managed by Barclays, BNP Paribas, and Deutsche Bank, and follows a recent 25 billion dollar bond sale by Microsoft.

## BACKGROUND

Euro bonds are debt instruments issued in Europe denominated in euros by foreign or domestic entities to raise capital from international markets. Mid-swaps serve as a benchmark interest rate reference point in the European swap market used by institutional issuers to price fixed-income securities.
