Alibaba Upgrades Qoder from AI Coding Tool to Autonomous Agent Workbench

Alibaba has upgraded its AI coding tool Qoder into an autonomous agent workbench capable of long-chain task execution, self-correction, and deep integration with Qwen models. The updated platform shifts focus from basic code generation to agentic tasks using advanced Harness technology. This upgrade reflects a broader industry shift from passive AI coding assistants to proactive, autonomous agents that can manage complex software engineering workflows. By offering both programming and general modes, it makes agentic automation accessible to both developers and non-technical users. The new Qoder features "Browser Use" and "Computer Use" capabilities, allowing it to interact with web pages and desktop applications. It also implements a tiered permission model and a tool whitelist to ensure sensitive operations require explicit user authorization.
