Alibaba T-Head Unveils Zhenwu V900 AI Chip with 3x Performance Boost

At the Apsara Conference, Alibaba's chip subsidiary T-Head announced its next-generation Zhenwu V900 AI processor, which delivers three times the computing performance of the previous Zhenwu M890. A single infrastructure cluster using the V900 can scale up to 500,000 cards to support frontier model training and inference. This development highlights China's expanding self-reliance in AI hardware accelerators, aiming to lessen reliance on Western semiconductor suppliers. The ability to scale up to 500,000 cards offers massive computational capacity required for next-generation frontier models exceeding trillions of parameters. The V900 integrates into T-Head's complete data center silicon portfolio alongside Yitian Arm CPUs, Panmai SmartNICs, and ICN interconnect chips. Alibaba is performing co-optimization across chips, servers, supernodes, networks, and inference engines to maximize total token throughput and efficiency.
