Driven by explosive demand for AI servers and high-speed optical modules, major global manufacturers including Murata and Samsung Electro-Mechanics raised factory prices for high-capacity MLCCs by 15% to 35%. In secondary spot markets, hoarders and capacity shifts pushed prices of certain high-demand MLCC models up by 2 to 10 times. The shortage highlights how the AI infrastructure surge is straining fundamental hardware supply chains, forcing manufacturers to reallocate production lines away from consumer electronics. Furthermore, delivery lead times stretching to 16 weeks are accelerating supply chain localization as downstream buyers turn to domestic Chinese suppliers to secure long-term capacity. Upgraded AI workstations use 2-3 times more MLCCs than conventional mini PCs, while high-speed 1.6T optical modules require 500 to 1,000 MLCCs each. Although spot prices pulled back in July as channel distributors liquidated hoarded stock, domestic Chinese suppliers report high-end AI orders already booked out into Q2 2027.
