AI Demand Triggers High-End PCB Shortage and 300% Price Surge
Driven by the surge in AI computing demand, high-end printed circuit boards (PCBs) are experiencing severe supply shortages, causing prices to skyrocket by 300% to 400%. Leading PCB manufacturers have already locked in their order books through 2027. High-end PCBs are critical hardware carriers for AI servers, and this supply bottleneck could slow down the deployment of global AI infrastructure. Furthermore, the value of a PCB in a single AI server is nearly ten times that of a traditional server, significantly increasing overall hardware costs. AI servers require high-layer-count PCBs with 30 to over 100 layers, compared to much lower counts in traditional servers. Additionally, the price of high-frequency, high-speed Copper Clad Laminates (CCL), the core raw material, has risen to 7 to 15 times the price of standard FR-4 laminates.

Copper Clad Laminate (CCL) is the core raw material of a PCB, created by bonding copper foil to an insulating resin-impregnated reinforcing layer. AI servers demand high-layer-count PCBs and advanced CCLs to handle high-speed, low-loss data transmission and complex routing requirements.
