AI Boom Drives Surge in High-Paying US Data Center Infrastructure Jobs
A study by Indeed reveals that US data center-related job postings have more than doubled over the past two years, driven by the AI boom. This trend has significantly boosted demand and wages for physical infrastructure roles like electricians, installers, and maintenance workers. This shift highlights how the AI revolution is impacting the broader labor market beyond software developers, creating high-paying blue-collar opportunities. It also shows a geographical expansion of tech-driven employment into regions outside traditional hubs like Silicon Valley. Data center roles now account for approximately 6 out of every 1,000 US job postings, triple the proportion in 2023. About a quarter of these postings are for installation and maintenance positions, which offer hourly wages roughly $10 higher than similar roles in other industries.
