AI Boom Drives HP, ASUS, and Acer to Shift PC Production Back to China
Driven by surging AI-induced component costs, major PC makers like HP, ASUS, and Acer are shifting some manufacturing capacity back to China and partnering with local contract manufacturers to reduce expenses. Established traditional ODMs are currently reallocating their resources toward more profitable AI data center servers. This trend highlights how the explosive growth of AI infrastructure is reshaping global hardware supply chains, forcing PC brands to adapt by leveraging China's mature manufacturing ecosystem. As component shortages and rising costs squeeze profit margins, companies must find cost-effective production alternatives to remain competitive. Emerging Chinese contract manufacturers such as Luxshare Precision, Huaxin (Wingtech), and Longcheer are stepping in to secure orders from global brands, even taking on more component sourcing responsibilities. Meanwhile, DRAM memory prices have reportedly surged significantly over the past year, driving up overall bill-of-materials (BOM) costs across the industry.
