AdaSpace Dispatches First Eight Satellites for Group 02 of 'Star-Compute' Constellation
Chinese aerospace company AdaSpace has dispatched eight self-developed satellites forming the first batch of Group 02 for its 'Star-Compute' orbital computing constellation ahead of an upcoming launch. These satellites have passed full-process testing by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) and will network in orbit with the previously deployed Group 01. This milestone marks AdaSpace's transition from initial technology validation to large-scale deployment of orbital computing infrastructure. If fully deployed, the planned 2,800-satellite constellation aims to process AI workloads directly in space, enabling low-latency space-based edge computing. All eight satellites were developed in-house by AdaSpace and manufactured at its Taizhou Satellite Computing Innovation Base. Upon reaching orbit, they will coordinate with Group 01 satellites to expand distributed space-based compute nodes.
## BACKGROUND
Satellite computing represents an emerging paradigm beyond traditional communication, navigation, and earth observation satellites by embedding high-performance computing capabilities directly into orbital payloads. By processing data on-orbit rather than transmitting raw datasets down to Earth, space computing reduces bandwidth demand and accelerates data processing for AI applications.
