2026 Mercedes-Benz E 300 L Launched with Chinese-Developed AI Cockpit
Mercedes-Benz has launched the 2026 E 300 L facelift in China, featuring a starting price reduction of 16,000 RMB (now ranging from 42.38 to 50.98 million RMB) and introducing the brand's first AI cockpit independently developed by its Chinese R&D team. This launch highlights how traditional luxury automakers are heavily localizing software and AI capabilities to compete with domestic smart electric vehicle brands in China. Integrating advanced large models and localized features signals a critical shift toward software-defined luxury vehicles. The new AI cockpit integrates ByteDance's Doubao large language model, offering voice recognition supporting multiple family members, 0.25-second response times, and a 60 fps Gaode navigation upgrade. The vehicle retains its 2.0T engine paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system while supporting quarterly OTA updates.
## BACKGROUND
The Doubao large language model, developed by ByteDance, has emerged as one of the most prominent conversational AI systems in China, gaining massive monthly active users. Meanwhile, digital twin 3D car modeling in modern smart cockpits uses real-time rendering to accurately mirror physical vehicle configurations and status for intuitive touch or voice interactions.
